Aroha Adventure Horse Trekkers,
By Angie Leckey 16th of september 2017
We are busy getting ready for the coming season, cleaning tack, tidying the stables, painting fences and gardening. The horses are still on their Winter break for another week, we will be mustering them on 24th Sept 2017.
It is spring in New Zealand and the brood mares are getting ready to foal as a result there are some very round tummies in the paddock. This is an exciting time for us as the next generation of our herd family are born. Many people believe that there is no connection once a mare weans a foal. This is certainly not true as Brothers and Sisters race to meet their siblings and Mums. Meet the horses on my blog
We have launched our new seasons calendar which is being updated weekly.
In partnership with Horse and Pony magazine we are once again running a competition. This year, to win a Lake Hawea and Hunter River ride for two people 6th to 11th January 2018. Details will be announced in the October edition of the magazine so keep your eyes peeled.
Last year’s winners enjoyed a Musters Mountain Pack Trail. Seen here at 6000 feet above sea on the top of Old Man’s Peak.
Over the coming months we will be travelling to the North Island for Equiday s 13th to 15th October 2017 stall P26 Mystery Creek, Hamilton www.equidays.co.nz The Christchurch Show, 15th to 17th November 2017 www.theshow.co.nz Equitana Auckland, 23rd to 26th November 2017 www.equitanaakl.co.nz
There are some amazing programmes on at each of these venues. We would love to meet you, please call in to our stall for a chat. If you are considering booking a trail this is a good opportunity to talk to us about your requirements.
The Ultimate OE pack horse and equine training is booked for December 2017, January and March 2018. We are looking forward to meeting this year’s students. This is our seventh year training the Ultimate OE (overseas experience) students in preparation for their work as trail guides or guides in the hunting industry over in Canada. We so enjoy seeing the photos and hearing the wonderful stories as these young people follow their dreams.
Our head wrangler for the season is Tirzah, she is from the USA and has been working in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. She is a certified wrangler who is completely at home in the saddle. During the 2016/2017 season our horses covered 2500 km through high mountain passes, snow fed rivers and glacial lakes. We are looking forward to another amazing season and especially, to taking our wonderful customers on incredible adventures through the South Island high country.
