Tōtara moved into the riding string 2025 season and has made his mark on the riders hearts.

Gentle, honest and deeply kind he has worked on just about every trail we have as a pack horse. Kat rode him as a wrangler horse and he coped with everything needed on a trail.

Moving into the customer riding string February 2026. I know that our customers are going to adore him.

Meaning of his name: Tōtara is a sacred tree to Maori, a symbol of nobility, chieftainship and social solidarity

The huge Māori waka taua, capable of carrying 100 warriors, were often hollowed out from a single Tōtara log.

It is one of the best woods for carving with stone tools.
